Overview
RTO Lighting is seeking a talented and dedicated Machinist to join our production team. The Machinist will be responsible for fabricating precision parts and components used in our lighting products. This role primarily involves programming and operating manual and CNC machinery and maintaining equipment. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a passion for hands-on work in a creative manufacturing
environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. Willingness to work fluidly across departments is also a plus as we are a small team and it is occasionally necessary for employees to perform work outside of their normal duties.
Essential Duties + Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate both manual and CNC mills and lathes to produce metal components
- Interpret and produce technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to ensure accurate fabrication
- Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and consistency
- Maintain and troubleshoot machines, tools, and equipment
- Work collaboratively with product development team to create prototypes
- Keep a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company standards
- Execute work by priority according to a schedule; keeping within estimated time frames
- Knowledge and familiarity with additional shop tools such as band saws, drill presses, benders, rollers, hydraulic press and press-breaks is a plus
Requirements
- 3+ years of machining experience (manual and/or CNC)
- Background in lighting, furniture, or design-related manufacturing is a plus
- Strong knowledge of machining metals such as brass, steel, and aluminium
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files
- Familiarity with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to precision craftsmanship
- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work fluidly among different departments
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
